Ofek Liepaz is an underwater photographer based in Cape Town, South Africa. His work is rooted in close observation, drawn to the quieter, often overlooked life beneath the surface. Macro is his specialty, but his work spans the full range of the reef, from tiny cryptic creatures to wide angle reefscapes and bigger marine life.
Much of his photography takes place along the reefs and kelp forests of Africa's coastlines, environments he knows intimately. Photography is how he learns about behaviour, ecology, and the creatures he encounters. More than a creative pursuit, it is a way of building a deeper understanding of the underwater world, motivated by a passion for discovery and a desire to share that with others.
Above water, his nature and wildlife work follows the same approach.
Ofek also works as a Venture Capital Scout at Katapult Ocean, the world's most active ocean impact investor, supporting ocean-focused founders across Africa. Being embedded in the world of ocean conservation and innovation shapes how he sees and engages with the underwater environments he photographs.
