Ofek Liepaz is an underwater photographer based in Cape Town, South Africa. His work is centred around close observation, and he is drawn to the quieter, often overlooked life beneath the surface. Macro is his specialty, but he shoots the full range of the reef, from tiny cryptic creatures to wide-angle reefscapes and bigger marine life. He shoots on a Sony A7RV in an aluminium Seafrogs housing with SUPE D-Pro strobes, and he is also a Seafrogs ambassador. In addition to this, he also uses a variety of wet lenses and diopters, including a Nauticam MFO-3, Nauticam SMC-1, and an AOI +6.
Much of his diving takes place along the reefs and kelp forests of Africa’s coastlines, environments he knows well. Photography is how he learns about behaviour, ecology, and the creatures he encounters. He is driven by discovery and by sharing what he finds with others.
Above water, his nature and wildlife work follows the same approach.
Ofek also works as a Venture Capital Scout at Katapult Ocean, supporting ocean-focused founders across Africa.
